MTCUME is the course on user management: everything you need to authenticate people on the network, measure their traffic, and manage them from a central system.

Who is the MTCUME course for?

  • Those who set up hotspots for hotels, venues, and public spaces
  • WISPs and ISPs that authenticate clients using PPPoE
  • Those who integrate the network with a RADIUS server

What are the prerequisites for enrollment?

A valid MTCNA certification.

What do you study in the MTCUME course?

  • PPP: profiles, addresses, filters, address lists, bandwidth and traffic limits, secrets, and IP pools
  • PPTP and L2TP: client and server, profiles, static routes, and interfaces
  • PPPoE: client and server, encryption, server security, and ECMP on PPP interfaces
  • Bridging over tunnels: L2TP with EoIP, VPLS, and BCP, multilink (MLPPP)
  • HotSpot: login methods, users and profiles, limits, walled garden, IP binding, and page customization
  • RADIUS: client and User Manager

How is the course conducted?

The course usually lasts two days (three in some editions), held in a classroom at the SICE academy in Capannori (Lucca) or online. There is a heavy focus on hands-on lab work with real routers: knowing the right command is not enough; you must understand why the packet takes that path. The official exam is always conducted in person: for classroom editions, it takes place at the end of the course; for online editions, it is held in a classroom on a date to be agreed upon with the organizers. Passing it earns you the MTCUME certification, which is verifiable on the MikroTik website.
