The MTCIPv6E course covers IPv6: how to address a network, how devices configure themselves, how to route, and how to protect an IPv6 network with RouterOS.

Who is the MTCIPv6E course for?

  • operators who need to provide IPv6 to customers
  • those managing networks where IPv6 is already provided by the ISP
  • those who want to understand IPv6 once and for all

What are the prerequisites for enrollment?

A valid MTCNA certification.

What is covered in the MTCIPv6E course?

  • Introduction to IPv6: addresses, notation, differences from IPv4, subnetting, and address types
  • Address configuration: SLAAC, stateless and stateful DHCPv6, neighbor discovery, prefixes, and basic routing
  • The IPv6 packet: header, next header, fragmentation, and path MTU discovery
  • Security: ICMPv6, neighbor discovery and router advertisement, MLD, firewall, and IPsec
  • Transition mechanisms: dual stack, 6to4, 6RD, Teredo, DS-Lite
  • Interoperability: IPv6 pools, DHCPv6 prefix delegation, IPIPv6/EoIPv6/GRE6 tunnels, DNS, PPP, and tools

How is the course conducted?

The course usually lasts two days (three in some editions), held in the classroom at the SICE academy in Capannori (Lucca) or online. There is extensive hands-on lab work on real routers: knowing the right command is not enough; you must understand why the packet takes that path. The official exam is always conducted in person: for classroom editions, at the end of the course; for online editions, in a classroom, on a date to be agreed upon with the organizers. Passing it grants the MTCIPv6E certification, verifiable on the MikroTik website.

Frequently asked questions

Why take a course on IPv6?

Because many operators already assign IPv6: without knowing it, the network is exposed and problems are difficult to diagnose. The MTCIPv6E course explains it using RouterOS.

Does the MTCIPv6E course cover prefix delegation?

Yes: DHCPv6 and prefix delegation, through which an operator assigns network blocks to customers, are among the topics of the MTCIPv6E course.
