What is the MTCNA certification?

MTCNA (MikroTik Certified Network Associate) is MikroTik’s foundational certification and the gateway to all others. It teaches you how to configure and manage a router running RouterOS from scratch, with extensive hands-on practice on the devices.

Who is the MTCNA course for?

It is aimed at network technicians, WISPs, installers, system integrators, and anyone who uses or wants to use MikroTik devices. No prior certification is required; however, a basic understanding of TCP/IP helps you follow along with less effort.

What will you learn?

The official curriculum covers the fundamentals of RouterOS:

  • initial access, WinBox, updates, and licenses;
  • IP addressing, DHCP, and bridging;
  • static routing;
  • basic wireless;
  • firewall and NAT;
  • simple queues (QoS);
  • basic tunnels and VPNs;
  • diagnostic and monitoring tools.

How do you obtain the certification?

By passing the official MikroTik exam, which is taken in the classroom at the end of the course. Those who pass receive the MTCNA certificate, which is also a prerequisite for all engineer-level courses (MTCRE, MTCWE, MTCTCE, MTCUME, MTCSE, MTCSWE, MTCIPv6E).

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience with MikroTik to take the MTCNA?

No. It is the foundational course and starts from scratch; however, knowing the fundamental concepts of IP networks is helpful.

What should I bring to the course?

A laptop with an Ethernet port to run WinBox. The academy provides the router for the exercises.

Which course should I take after the MTCNA?

It depends on your work: MTCRE for routing, MTCWE for wireless, MTCTCE for firewall and queues, MTCSWE for switching.
