This notice explains what personal data MikroTik Dojo (mikrotikdojo.com) collects, why, and how you can exercise your rights, in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).
Who is the data controller?
Gianni Olivieri, who manages the MikroTik Dojo website. For any privacy-related requests, write to info@mikrotikdojo.com.
What data do we collect with the newsletter?
When you subscribe, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your name. To demonstrate consent, we also record the date and time of subscription, the IP address from which it was made, the version of the consent text, and the confirmation date.
The optional questionnaire and certification verification
After confirming your subscription, you can optionally answer a brief questionnaire: what you do for work and which MikroTik certifications you hold. The answers are used solely to send you more relevant content for your job, such as an invitation to a course suitable for you or a reminder about renewing a certification. These are optional, and the legal basis is your consent.
If you check the appropriate box, we use your first and last name to search for your certifications in the MikroTik public certificate search. We show you what we found and save only the certifications you confirm (acronym, number, issue and expiration dates). In case of name matches, you can provide your certificate numbers: we keep only those registered in your name. If you are a dojo member, valid certifications grant you a bonus in belt ranks and appear on your badge: for this reason, with the same consent, we re-check the saved numbers against the same public registry once a week (expiration and holder) and notify you if one is about to expire. You can request the deletion of this data at any time by writing to info@mikrotikdojo.com; upon unsubscribing from the newsletter, we no longer use it.
What data do we collect with the contact form?
If you write to me from the Contact page, I collect your name, email address, subject, and message text, plus the IP address from which it was sent, which is used only to block abuse. The legal basis is your request: I use this data exclusively to respond to you. The message is not saved on the website: it arrives via email in my inbox and remains there for the time necessary to manage the conversation.
Why do we use it and on what legal basis?
To send you the MikroTik Dojo newsletter: RouterOS vulnerabilities and updates, MikroTik course dates, and news about the MikroTik Dojo book series. The legal basis is your consent, given by checking the box in the form and confirming via the link you receive by email (double opt-in). Without confirmation, the subscription is not active, and you receive nothing.
How long do we retain it?
As long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain only the email address and the unsubscribe date, to ensure we do not write to you again. Unconfirmed subscriptions are deleted periodically.
Who is it disclosed to?
No one. The data is stored on the server hosting the website, located in Italy, and emails are sent from the same server. We do not sell or transfer data to third parties. If we use an external service to send the newsletter in the future, we will indicate it here.
How can you unsubscribe?
Using the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every email, or by writing to info@mikrotikdojo.com.
What is public if you are in the dojo?
Nothing, unless you choose to make it so from your area, using separate checkboxes. You can appear in the hall of fame (visible only to dojo members) with a dojo name you invent; you can make yourself verifiable, in which case anyone who knows your student number can see your first name, last name, and rank; you can publish your personal page (/allievo/<number>/), which adds the optional details you provide (city, company, LinkedIn profile), your verified MikroTik certifications, and your dojo journey (promotion dates, correct answers, longest streak). Your mobile phone and work email appear only if you also check that box, and only after clicking “Show contacts”. The page remains out of search engines, unless you request otherwise. You can uncheck any option and delete fields at any time: the page disappears immediately.
What are your rights?
You can request access to your data, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability, and you can withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal. You can also lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority (garanteprivacy.it).
Does the site use cookies?
The site does not use profiling cookies or third-party analytics or advertising tools (our statistics are first-party and cookie-free, see below), and the fonts are hosted on our server. Technical cookies are set only for those who access the administration area and for registered users who enter the registered users area: in that case, the “dojo_m” cookie contains a signed code that identifies you as a registered user, lasts 90 days, does not contain your email, and is deleted when you click “Log out”. It is a technical cookie, necessary to show you the restricted content: it does not require consent and is not used for profiling.
How do we measure visits?
Without Google Analytics and without external services. We count visits on our server, from the technical logs that every web server keeps (IP address, requested page, browser, referrer site), and from a small anonymous signal that the page sends to our own server when you leave it: how long it remained open, how far you scrolled, whether you copied a command or clicked a link to another site. The signal contains no identifiers, does not use cookies or browser storage, and does not include personal parameters from links.
From the IP address, we derive only the country and region, using a database queried on our server (IP Geolocation by DB-IP). Every night, the logs are summarized into aggregated numbers (number of visits, origin, pages viewed): the IP is used only during the counting process and is not included in the summaries. Technical logs remain on the server for about three weeks for security purposes and are then automatically deleted. The links in our emails contain “utm” parameters with the name of the email, not your address: they are used to determine how many visits each send generates.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding which content is useful. This is a first-party statistical measure, without cookies and without cross-referencing with other data.
Courses
The course pages list the dates of courses organized by SICE Telecomunicazioni. Course registration is handled on the sicetelecom.it website, which processes data according to its own privacy notice.
