What changes in RouterOS 7.25?
The main changes focus on stability and new network features:
- Security: Fixed CVE-2026-31431 and CVE-2026-67280. Improved email and SSH certificate verification, with the default host key type changed to Ed25519.
- Bridge and Switching: Added dynamic ARP inspection and IP source guard. Fixed bridge port forwarding issues and MVRP behavior in MLAG setups. Resolved a bug causing fragmented IPv6 traffic drops from DHCPv6 snooping (introduced in v7.23).
- Routing: Added
always-compare-medconfiguration for BGP. Fixed issues with unnumbered BGP sessions in VRFs and failed session logging. Improved OSPF stability in case of neighbor loss. - Wi-Fi: Improved MLO (Multi-Link Operation) support and client statistics. Fixed roaming issues with fast transition and SAE authentication. Added hardware protection for 802.11be devices.
- Hardware-specific: Fixed stability issues on RB5009 (link flapping, reboots), RB1100AHx2, and hAP be3 Media. Improved SFP compatibility on hAP ax S and hEX S (2025).
- Other: Added XFRM support for IPsec. Improved container management on CHR. Added new SNMP OIDs for OSPF, VRRP, and Netwatch.
Who should update (or not)?
All users on the stable channel should plan to upgrade to 7.25 to benefit from security and stability fixes. This is particularly important for those using MLAG setups, BGP with VRFs, or RB5009 and hAP be3 Media devices that had known issues. You do not need to update if you are already on a later version in the testing/development channel, but it is still recommended to switch to stable for production.
How to update (or remediate) safely?
Before updating:
- Create a full backup/export and save it to external storage.
- Ensure the device does not lose power during the process.
- Make sure there is enough free space to download the RouterOS packages.
To update, go to System/Packages in the RouterOS configuration interface, select the stable channel, and click “Check For Updates”. Alternatively, download the packages from the MikroTik download page. After updating, verify that all services are working correctly and check the logs for any errors.
